Finding The Fit

Aligning well is crucial. That’s a fact of life, and a baseline rule of design. When you are looking to make something feel special, to create a singular emotion that is shouted by thousands of small details, a chorus of tight harmony; you need to understand how the pieces fit together. Designing space is much like conducting the orchestra, everything has it’s part in the symphony, from the strings down to the small triangle played by the percussionist. It must all come together, play together, live together.

The team works the same way.

“You can’t make a silk purse from a sow’s ear.” is an old adage that really captures the spirit here. If we aren’t a harmonious and well-aligned team, how can we pull together a harmonious and well-aligned interior design? It might be possible, but it’s certainly not efficient and it’s not the kind of work that lasts for very long. The details fall apart if you don’t have a team that likes flowing seamlessly together around those details. In our last writing, we talked about the importance of long term client relationships and what a powerful indicator it is of your potential experience with a designer. The team that fills our office is a crucial piece of that experiential puzzle. When you work with people for years, you can’t hide anything, and that’s wonderful accountability. In order to make them feel known, we have to be willing to share our honest-selves with everyone we meet. Our smiles have to be genuine, our work has to be enlivening and invigorating. Without the real-deal enjoyment, there’s no springwater from which to draw out creativity and excitement.

Environment

How do you feel when you enter a room alone? What difference does it make if you’re not alone? When you see someone every day, ideally you meet with high energy and a bright smile on your face. A positively charged atmosphere is infectious, and there’s nothing more wonderful than mixing a beautiful space with beautiful, indomitably personalities. In our office, and in the homes we’re working on, we have always valued the hard work and heavy lifting (did you know we’re stronger than you might think?) required to get an installation just right. After-hours sofa-lifting is a struggle, but when the attitude in the room says, “Let’s do this together! Let’s see it through! Let’s make a joke along the way!” those heavy pieces of furniture get a lot lighter.

You’ve probably stepped into a professional office that smelled good, that had the faint remnants of laughter in the air, a place where the people smile not because it’s a policy in the employee manual, but because they are really and truly excited to see your face and offer welcome. That’s what we believe is a valuable moment in any relationship. If you’re going to trust us to build your most precious environments, we have to be champions of wonderful environments in every facet of our work!

We are looking for that
perfect “Fit”

For years we have enjoyed just such an environment, but with recent life changes (like Kaitlin having a baby!) we need to add some more “stems to the bouquet”. We are on the search for another fine person who believes deeply in the process of taking time to know people, who wants to pursue these reflections of people in the spaces we design for them, and who has some solid interior design skills.

If you know such a person,
will you have them send us an application?

Everyone’s skills and abilities are important, but the most crucial aspects are the shared heartbeat. We value Closeness through relationships built on listening, facetime, and empathy. It’s important to be Nurturing, tending to the important things on behalf of those we serve. And Competent Creativity is crucial, elevated taste and style are built on the shoulders of organization and expertise.
